Editor’s Note As we approach our 50th year of independence this October, it’s time to sit back and think about the accomplishments Nigeria has made over time. Although, there is still much to do in ensuring that our nation is amongst the top amongst world leaders, it is also important to give credit to all those who have relied on their own strengths and talents in building our nation. When we think about the champions who have led (and are still leading) Nigeria to it’s full potential, we cannot help but to be amazed by all of the Nigerian women who have contributed in the fields of science, politics, journalism, entertainment, and fashion. Our women continue to take Nigeria to new heights, without receiving the recognition that they deserve. But we see you. We hear you. And most importantly, we appreciate you! Nigerian women of all ethnic groups have been at the forefront of all things notable and thus the reason why we dedicated this issue to our women. This “Women’s Issue” is intended to celebrate the accomplishments and tenacity of our Nigerian women- young and old. Whether they be our political leaders, our entrepreneurs, our mothers, or religious advisors, [...]

As reported by TMZ.com in the morning of June 14th, Chidi Benjamin Uzomah, Jr has been sentenced to two years in prison for stalking the American Idol star host, Ryan Seacrest. Though there hasn’t been any official reports of Uzomah’s nationality, we here at Ômo Naija Magazine are willing to place our bets that this man — with such a staple Igbo name — is a Nigerian man. Reports state that 26-year Old Uzomah — who, in September 2009, went after Seacrest outside a hospital and a month later, outside E! Studios — plead guilty to felony stalking charges back in March this year. He was reported to be armed with a knife in both instances. In addition to the prison sentence, the judge ordered Uzomah to remain at least 500 yards away from Seacrest and his places of work for 10 years.
