Sade on the cover of Ebony Magazine
Sade is on the upcoming cover of Ebony Magazine. In her personal yet candid interview, Sade discuses her 10 year hiatus, including her love life, her personal struggles, her joys of being a mother, and, most importantly, the making of her most recent studio album, “Soldier of Love”. Sade tells the magazine: “I’ve had my ups and downs in the years between these albums. That’s partly why I’m able to write songs that people in some way can hear. I express feelings, real feelings.”
Soldier of Love secured itself as the # 1 album worldwide and has been able to maintain that spot, with over 501,000 copies sold. The album is currently # 1 in ten additional countries including Canada, Switzerland, France, Italy, Dubai, Poland, Greece, Japan, Portugal and Spain.
Sade was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Her middle name, Folasade, means honour confers your crown.Her parents, Bisi Adu, a Nigerian lecturer in economics of Yoruba background, and Anne Hayes, an English district nurse, met in London, married in 1955 and moved to Nigeria. Sade moved to England at the age of four. Her musical career started when she was in college and she joined a soul band, Pride, in which she sang backing vocals. Her solo performances of the song “Smooth Operator” attracted the attention of record companies and in 1983, she signed a solo deal with Epic Records taking three members of the band, Stuart Matthewman, Andrew Hale and Paul Denman, with her.Sade and her band have sold over 50 million albums.She is the most successful solo female artist in British history.
